Journey Parts 2+4

(I alternated between German and English. Refer to the post below for what happened in between. And if you don't know German, enjoy the power of google translations. ;) )

18:10 - Frankfort/M Airport; Gate D1, waiting area
Music: none, but the Korean team of flight assistants etc. are having their briefing nearby

Terrorism sucks. And not only for the obvious reasons. I just had to throw my water bottle away which I admittedly knew would happen BUT I wasn't allowed to have a last sip from it before it was thrown away. Heck, I couldn't even just go the three steps outside of the security check area and drink there unless I took all of my stuff with me and underwent the entire process AGAIN. What..the... eff!?

Interesting and sorta strange tidbit: I have metal in my shoes. Not the steel cap kinda deal but random metal sticks in the soles. So I had to take of my shoes and they scanned them which was alright with me but I couldn't help wondering how many terrorists actually try to smuggle bombs, guns or whatever else they use to hijack planes inside the soles of their shoes.

Anyway, just glad it all worked out and I won't have to stress about missing the flight. I might even manage to get bored before take-off! Wait, that's not a good thing.

I'm thirsty.

13:54 (Korean time) - Seoule/Incheon Airport, NaverSquare (which is the free internet place)

Music: random football game.

I made it! Ok, the plane made it and I happened to be in there but let's just pretend my getting to Korea were my achievement. It'll make me feel better about looking like a trainwreck (see proof). And there's nothing really to see because the airport is at the middle of nowhere. But who cares, right!? I'm in KOREA!

Admittedly I'm also being excited in René's stead. Here's hoping you'll get to come here soon, and hopefully with less haze because gods, is it misty outside. The plane entered the layer of clouds underneath that beautiful, steel-blue sky and sank through it... going down and down and ever further down without the fog around lifting. Indeed it seems as if I were still stuck somewhere in midair (albeit "flying" with a whole airport this time).

Anyway, I'm rambling. Blame it on the jetlag and little sleep and the fact that I'll have to wait about 5 hours now until the plane to Melbourne's leaving. Gaaah...

Well, plenty of time to figure out whether or not to buy that wideangle lense they've got on sale here.

Also: I'm still thirsty. Why are they serving drinks on planes in such tiny cups?

  1. I never understood the whole take off your shoes things either and found it much more of a hassle than anything. And I have no answer to the tny drink glasses either I'm afraid.

I'm glad you made it though and, for what it's worth I actually thought that was a very nice picture of you rather than proof of you looking like a trainwreck. I'm just reading the English parts though, sorry but I can't be bothered translating. You know how deeply my laziness runs ;)

  2. I couldn't possibly blame you for that... laziness is a virtue the cultivation of which should be everyone's top priority.

As for the shoes off thing: it was one of the little things that made those flights bearable. 8 hours on a plane, 6 hours at the airport in Korea and another 11 hours in flight would have made walking (or having feet at all, actually) horrible.
